Surroundings: Patio House on Karpathos
The raw, untouched island terrain of the Aegean Sea is also the setting for some of the most storied myths in history. Protruding from the rocky cliffside on the island of Karpathos, this stunning holiday home proves an architectural feat of its own mythical measures.
Named Patio House, likely for its airy and open floor plan, the home has an undeniable connection between its walls and the sea. Its owners asked that the home not compete with the natural beauty of the landscape, but rather that it should enhance it. Tasked with the project, Swedish architectural firm OOAK selected natural materials and a subdued neutral color palette to construct a clean, concrete structure that echoed the island’s simple and unrefined beauty.
Large cut out windows frame the sea and surrounding landscape like gallery paintings on display. A bright interior in minimalist Mediterranean style infuses traditional Karpathian architecture with Scandinavian design throughout each of the rooms, creating an inviting energy of lightness and warmth. Invite the magic of the mediterranean in and discover this Greek Island paradise in the photos of the home below.
