My Sanctuary: Phoebe Mcdowell
While home has often been considered a feminine space, too few opportunities have been given to women to tell their stories about the places they inhabit and the objects they value. Our sanctuaries articulate our unique aesthetics, rituals and needs and so become a beautiful expression of selfhood.
In this series we discover the stories of home and life told by some of the wonderful women in our midst.
London based journalist and interiors enthusiast Phoebe McDowell shows us some corners of her home. With a successful interiors newsletter — The Pinterior — it is no wonder that her sanctuary contains many beautiful objects and ornaments.
“So Giddy it’s nearly Wint-Autumn time. Give me an early morning lamp, sideways rain and a hot water bottle any day”
“Heading back to bed with a book. I’ve got a vertiginous, unread stack on my bedside table – the Japanese call it Tsundoku and I blame Rhobh”
“My tulips – I didn’t know you could get them in September, but you can, and from the co-op”
“Sitting down to write this month’s The Pinterior newsletter. It’s WFH themed with lots of shopping and recs, which is ironic because my own setup is abysmal – my chairs, hard as rocks”
