My Sanctuary: Molly Mahon
While home has often been considered a feminine space, too few opportunities have been given to women to tell their stories about the places they inhabit and the objects they value. Our sanctuaries articulate our unique aesthetics, rituals and needs and so become a beautiful expression of selfhood.
In this series we discover the stories of home and life told by some of the wonderful women in our midst.
Based in Sussex, Molly Mahon is a designer and maker who uses block print to create an array of wistful wallpapers and homewares. Inspred by the world around her, she turns life into beautiful prints for many others to enjoy in their homes. Molly shares some moments in her Sussex home with us at &YOU.
“I’m a British Textile Designer based in East Sussex and I’m passionate about block printing! I offer a range of joyful prints on fabrics, wallpapers, homewares & accessories and today and I’m going to share with you my inspirations and creature comforts from my home”
“Here in our sitting room I have had painted my flower, Marigolds on the cupboards. They are symbolic of passion and creativity and add a joyful layer to our family home”
“The children love to print too and during lockdown we have printed and made our own unique sketch books ahead of our Summer break. We will sketch, write, stick things in to remember this time. It’s something I have always taken pleasure in doing. I am now incorporating more potato prints for one off projects like the pink flower here”
“Here is my desk in my studio – a little insight into my design process. I start all my designs by hand drawing a repeat pattern, scaling it up and down until it feels just right”
“My home is a wonderful mix of old and new. I call it ‘perfectly imperfect’ and I wouldn’t want it any other way”
“Not forgetting Bramble the dog sitting proudly here on a chair in our kitchen, upholstered in our pattee fabric”
“The Kitchen is the heart of our home … I love my open shelves to that I can see all my colorful bowls, spices and kitchen equipment. I painted the tiles that sit behind my Everett. There is often a child (or dog) sitting in the armchair whilst I cook”
