My Sanctuary: Heather Kane
While home has often been considered a feminine space, too few opportunities have been given to women to tell their stories about the places they inhabit and the objects they value. Our sanctuaries articulate our unique aesthetics, rituals and needs and so become a beautiful expression of selfhood.
In this series we discover the stories of home and life told by some of the wonderful women in our midst.
Heather Kane of lifestyle brand Frances Loom has an enduring passion for renovation and interiors, she has designed many spaces but all embody the same aesthetic principles: eclectic yet peaceful. Heather shared some of her favorite objects and spaces from her London home with us.
“This is my new 1970s pink mirrored coffee table. It’s really hard to get a good pic of, but I love her. It’s a welcome bit of color for an otherwise very clean (white) space. I love an electric mix of eras and styles”
“Is it funny that one of my favourite spots is inside a wardrobe? I do love jewelery and the piles of it here, along with the naughty renaissance print (failed project from elsewhere) makes this landing spot of all things girly a good place to start the day (the dressed part of the day anyway)”
“Do you know that we spend 30+ years of our lives in bed, between sleeping and trying to sleep? My bed is an even of yummy textures – it is the coziest spot in the house. I genuinely get excited to get back in every night”
“This room is open plan, after the renovations I wanted it to sit well with the rest of the dining and living spaces. The brass metal mesh panels and the arch are my fave details. Now if only I could find a pretty kettle that U wouldn’t mind sitting out on my counter”
“Goldie Hog was a souvenir from a Morocco Trip – she’s solid brass, so hard to get home – typical of my souvenir choices”
“I am an undeniable magpie. I always have collections going – crystals, religious bits, old landscapes and more. But when putting together this latest flat and aiming for a paired back look (hard for a maximalist), I allowed myself to go crazy – but only in this cabinet!”
“The hardest room of all to photograph, but I love that brass wall! It helps it feel open even though the bathroom is the size of a postage stamp – just big enough for a tub, which is a must for me”
